The invincible Arsenal side, the treble winning united side
of 99. We all enjoyed viewing such triumphs and celebrated with them as they
stormed to victory. That’s kinda how I felt last week when Andy Carroll was
racking up his 16 points and leading the maverick to unprecedented success.
Like an awkward second album or replacing the unreplaceable
man we have to roll with the punches and keep going knowing somehow we cannot replicate
glories of weeks previous. That won’t stop us trying though and we roll into
gameweek 17 after a tough week on the battlefield searching for the differential
that will replace the crocked Sergio Aguero.
From one crock to another with the returning Oliver Giroud.
Having missed nine weeks of the season and returning to fitness, Giroud just
fits under in my 4.0% ownership rule with 3.6%. I’m sure a lot of those
managers will be ghost managers who have long forgotten Fantasy Premier League.
A late goal against united since his return hasn’t really lit the touch paper
as Wenger would of hoped but the opportunity to test their metal against a
ravaged Geordie defence at the Emirates offers the chance of getting the haters
off the Frenchman’s back for at least the next week.
The visit of Newcastle offers the perfect platform for
Giroud to get a full 90 minutes and the midweek rest against Galatasarary will
have helped the frontman’s cause. A trip to Liverpool follows whose defence itself
has hardly been water tight recently and then the visit of QPR to the Emirates
completes the next three fixtures. If Arsenal are going to be considered top
four candidates then they’re going to need at least 7 points from these games
or they face the real prospect of missing out on the Champions league for the
first time in some 16 years.
Can we expect Giroud to outscore Carroll? Probably not, can
we expect him to bag a goal? Of course we can and with Aguero and Austin out
they’re plenty of movers for the likes of Rooney, Costa, Bony, Dzeko and the
likes. Giroud has gone under the radar and has the undoubted class to lead us
to the points this week!
